NEHEMIAH PROJECT UPDATE - 62 wall section commitments

Orland Park Church families were given a challenge this morning to commit funding for completing the wall around the Hogar Amor orphanage.  A much needed wall around the 5 acre property for the safety of the children, and for the orphanage to utilize good stewardship of the property.

In Nehemiah 3-6 there were groups of people who committed to rebuilding a section of the walls of Jerusalem - it was completed in 52 days!

The wall around Hogar Amor can be completed in 150 sections. Each of these sections will cost $350 to complete.  A quarter of the wall is already completed (37 sections).

The challenge to Orland Park Church members was to find yourself a group (family, MOPS, small group, neighbors, co-workers, etc) to commit to raise $350 by the end of the year to build 1 section of the wall.

We are EXCITED to let you know that of the 113 sections needed, we have commitments for 62 of these sections - with 13 of the commitments completely paid for!

God CAN do ANYTHING!

Honduras Trip 2012

Here are some of the things we were able to accomplish and purchase through your generous support:
*Painted the main room, girls' room, and boys' room at Hogar Amor orphanage
*Painted the metal staircase of the dormitorio
*Delivered cards and gifts from sponsors to the children at Hogar Amor...and had a party with yummy treats!
*Built a new stove with a tile floor and roof next to the new kitchen
*Took the children of Hogar Amor shopping and out for ice cream.  They were each able to pick out one outfit of clothes as well as a new bath towel.
*Purchased all the school supplies and uniforms for 24 children for the entire upcoming school year which begins Feb 13
*Purchased 6 new tables and 6 new chairs for the orphanage
*Purchased a new tire for the bus
*Gave blankets to the young mothers with babies and some of the babies at the Brickyard, too
*Repaired the freezer and provided the funds to fill it with meat
*Distributed 250 toiletry bags to Hogar Amor, the boys at the Farm, and the needy people at the Brickyard
*Distributed 207 pillowcases made by the ladies' Bible study group to the children at Hogar Amor, the boys at the Farm, & the children at Hogar Nazareth

Here are some of the God-sightings, touching moments, and personal highlights:
*seeing how God orchestrated the whole trip and how everyone was great at being flexible and incredibly positive
*Arvil and Miriam thanking us for brightening up not only their home (with paint), but brightening up their childrens' lives
*Hugging the girls we sponsor at Hogar Amor after waiting an entire year
*Chris providing first-aid to a little boy at the Brickyard with a head wound
*Getting beat in soccer (sometimes by a little, sometimes by a lot) by the kids at the orphanage
*Kasey taking off her shoes and giving them to a woman at the Brickyard and then going shoeless for several hours
*When one of the orphans gave Tori a letter that said: "the first time I gave you a hug, you became my best friend"

*We saw rainbows several days that were just incredible!
*Great devotions every morning and every evening
*The eyes of a little girl who received a disney princess blanket were priceless
*You are able to see a small glimpse of what breaks God's heart
